Even though our microphones were hairbrushes, we could rock along with the best of them.

Picture this: You're back in middle school. You've just gotten off the school bus and have kicked off your turquoise Vans to the corner of your bedroom. "Tiger Beat Magazine" posters cover every inch of your boring, beige walls and you collapse on your tousled twin bed. Digging out your iPod Nano from the depths of your backpack, you plug in and set your imaginary stage.

If you're like me, this was a very real daily routine back in the golden years of youth. These are six 2000's songs that could turn anyone into a bedroom rockstar.

1. "This Is Me" - Demi Lovato

The anthem of middle schoolers everywhere, "This Is Me" by Demi Lovato in the beloved movie, "Camp Rock," always lifted the spirits as well as the self-esteem while you lip-synced into your hairbrush and imagined singing alongside Joe Jonas *swoon*.

2. "7 Things" - Miley Cyrus

You're a scorned girl; the boy you have a crush on didn't admit to his forbidden feelings for you when you *67-ed him at the sleepover with your friends last weekend. In retaliation, you blast this classic Miley hit and get all of your feelings out... at least until you see him in homeroom again and start all over.

3. "Burnin' Up" - Jonas Brothers

This lovely number never failed to cheer up a dragging youngster and enhance their rockstar imagination. Include two of your very best friends in the fun and your trio could have taken over the world. Or at least the after-school snack session.

4. "We're All In This Together" - East High

Don't try and deny it; we've all known the dance moves to this song at one point or another. Whether in the school gymnasium or alone in your room, this anthem to teen unity brings all the feels.

5. "Nobody's Perfect" - Hannah Montana**

This song always came in handy after a bad haircut or a nasty breakout reared its ugly blackheads. Even as a fictional character, Hannah gave us the perfect song to blast on the boom box when you were feeling the need for a pick-me-up.

6. "Play My Music" - Connect 3**

Being a big-time [bedroom] rockstar means we need a song to describe our absolute and pure love for music, a love that reaches down deep into our soul. Luckily, our favorite 2000s trio provided the perfect anthem to sing to the family cat as he lounges in your bedroom.

** = May be an alias for another well-known musical group and/or artist... (wink wink)

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.

I've known you your entire life. More than likely I held you in the first three days of it and at least one of us cried. Cousins are truly one of the best things in the world and while sometimes I complain about how many people crowd Grandma's living room on Christmas Eve, I wouldn't trade you all anything.

You are my best friends, the only people who can understand what it's like on Thanksgiving, and you are the spunkiest people I have ever met. But you as so so young, most of you are just now starting your adventures in the public education system. I mean, I'm so very young too. I'm not married, I don't have children, heck, I just started my adult life, but I do want to give you what little advice I have. My dears, these are the things I want you to know.
