Oh Yeah Christian Songs

This week I will be covering "Hero" by Abandon. This song is so great and it really speaks to me. Once again, my faith jumps into what I write. But, I cannot ignore what I believe.

The song starts off with, “He walked the dirty streets, Famous for nothing, He said come follow me and they came, A face like all the rest, But something was different, The Son of God would lead the way, And soon they all would say”. This is obviously talking about Jesus, the Son of God. Think about it. The Savior of every single one of us, made out of perfection, stooped down to our level. He stooped down to their level, our level, your level, my level. Wow. This is heavy. He covered Himself in skin just like ours and walked upon the earth with us. Instead of Walking with Dinosaurs, it’s Walking with the God of Everything. He would lead the world to the short and narrow path to salvation. Soon the world would shout His name. But He wasn’t about Himself. He came for us. He came to save us. The next part goes, “There He goes - a hero, A savior to the world, Here He stands with scars in His hands, With love He gave His life so we could be free, The Savior of the world”. We would all soon realize that He is, was, and always will be our hero. He wore our sins which gave Him physical scars, but did He ever beg for it to stop? No! He gave His life for us so that we might yet live! He loved us with that unconditional, super-powerful, agape love that is unmatched by any force in existence and thereof! He did it for us. He did it for them. He did it for you. He did it for me. He saved the world in one night. Over 5 billion people were freed from eternal damnation in that night. Those storms and earthquakes carried His power throughout the world. A day of sadness and salvation. That one night changed the course of history for an eternity. The next part goes, “He spoke with clarity, Walked across the sea, A single word would calm the storm, His touch could heal the sick, but He was called a hypocrite, Laid behind the stone. His death was shortly mourned, he left the curtain torn”. Jesus never once doubted Himself, because He knew everything. He knew all of the hearts that surrounded Him. Therefore, He spoke to the hearts of those around Him. I don’t think that when he spoke, he spoke the human way. He spoke to the heart. So that every word that escaped His lips reached the hearts of those that heard His words. He walked on water and with one word he put to rest and endless sea of thoughts, water, and whatever you could possibly think of to finish this sentence. He could do it all in one word and possibly even less. Yet, even with Him being able to heal people with His hands, He was called a liar by mortal, mistrustful humans. His robe healed a woman just because He wore it. A woman with a fatal disease tore off part of His robe and He said that He felt some of His power leave Him. He is so powerful that what He wears is soaked with power. And yet, He was still killed. But it was all meant to be. His death tore the curtain in the temple. This curtain separated regular people from what is called, the Holy of Holies. In this place only the highest ranking priest could enter. Since it was torn, now anyone can enter that room. This room nowadays is wherever we want it. We can just pray for forgiveness, but back then they had to sacrifice an unblemished animal, preferably a lamb. Jesus was everyone’s lamb. The last part goes, “He choose to take the cross, Shed tears for the lost, the broken, and the needy, Forgiving those who were and will be, The angel made it clear, He told them have no fear, He’s not here! He’s not here!”. Jesus chose to bear it all for us. He didn’t have to, but He did. Then once He rose from the dead, an angel told His followers that He has risen. He did all of that, for us.

There it is. "Hero" by Abandon. Great song and a great message. I really enjoy this song and I love every but of it.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
