Song Translation With JtheDisaster #14
Five for Fighting

Anyone here like Superman? Well, this song is a more realistic version of a somewhat depressed Superman, probably before he meets up with Lois Lane. In a sense, this song connects us to our childhood heroes, that they are not very different from us. This song is touches me like no other song. It is It’s Not Easy (Superman) by Five For Figthing.

This song starts off slowly. It eases into your heart and soul and before you know it, you are feeling the same thing that the singer is feeling when he performs this song. It goes, “I can't stand to fly, I'm not that naïve, I'm just out to find, The better part of me, I'm more than a bird, I'm more than a plane, I'm more than some pretty face beside a train, And it's not easy to be me”. This hits me very hard. If Superman, himself, is having a hard time being who he is, doesn’t that mean we should too? It kind of lets us know that not everyone has it all going on. People tend to classify him in many ways and try to look at him as just another person, but we are all dealing with our demons and struggling. Then next part goes, “Wish that I could cry, Fall upon my knees, Find a way to lie, About a home I'll never see, It may sound absurd, but don't be naïve, Even heroes have the right to bleed, I may be disturbed, but won't you concede, Even heroes have the right to dream, And it's not easy to be me, Up, up and away, away from me, Now it's all right, you can all sleep sound tonight, I'm not crazy, Or anything”. Often times, when you are always looked up to, you don’t have the pleasure or opportunity to be human. That we idolize our heroes and confine them to a small space of success whereas they just want to be normal. They are tired of always having to win or save the day. That takes a lot out of someone. Plus, they have their own issues that they need to deal with. They have to remind themselves that they aren’t crazy, but the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again expecting change. Our heroes could very well end up going insane if we don’t let them be themselves. The next part goes, “I can't stand to fly, I'm not that naïve, Men weren't meant to ride, With clouds between their knees. I'm only a man in a silly red sheet, Digging for kryptonite on this one way street, Only a man in a funny red sheet, Looking for special things inside of me, Inside of me, Inside me, Inside me, Inside of me, I'm only a man, In a funny red sheet, I'm only a man, Looking for a dream, I'm only a man, In a funny red sheet, And it's not easy, No, it's not easy to be me, Me”. Superman feels that he shouldn’t be who he is, but he does what he must. Just like ourselves. WE are looking for diamonds trying to make a name for ourselves or trying to cover up a past that we don’t want to remember. That we all want to know that everything will be alright. That in the end, it’s just not that easy to be you. That our lives are difficult and we just need to keep on moving forward. Life isn’t easy.

Thank you for reading. I really enjoy this song and especially the way that it is sung. If you haven’t listened to this song, then you need to, because it is so good. I have a great time listening to it and I get lots of ideas that I could write about. Thank you guys and tune in next week for my next song.

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
