It is evident that music has a huge impact on the lives of people across the world, but what exactly does music mean to you? Music is a language, an emotion, and a feeling that everybody shares. Music has no language barrier, nor judges those who listen. It can pull people out of the deepest depressions and can bring joy and laughter to life. Music is love, rage, sorrow, and rebellion. Music is passion, desire and the one thing to turn to during your lowest moments or highest times. Music can changes lives. Is there a song that changed your life?

When asked if there was a song that changed my life, I could not think of just one. There are many songs that have really spoke to me and made me feel something different. Though there are many, the one song that I would have to say changed my life is “Everlong” by the Foo Fighters. It sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it and makes me feel like everything is going to be okay. It also gives me hope that there is something more out there for me. The song really opened my mind to different genres of music and led me to explore and discover new and old music.

After asking others if there was a song that changed their life, the responses were everything from Katy Perry to Led Zeppelin. “I Dig Rock and Roll Music” by Peter, Paul, and Mary changed the way one listener looked at music and showed that anybody was capable of fitting in to the Rock and Roll world. The song “Pearl” by Katy Perry made another feel worthy of happiness and the love of a good relationship. Of Mice and Men have a song called “Second and Seabring” which related to somebody’s life and helped him through a rough time. The song became really personal to him.

Another interviewee explained how Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” changed his life. “The song scared the hell outta me! I was probably 7 or 8 years old in my dad’s truck, alone in the dark, and this song came on. It didn’t strike me at first, but as the eerie bridge unfolded and Jimmy Page worked his magic, I was absolutely terrified!” He went on to explain that, as a musician, the song had a lasting impact on him and the way he writes music. “Every song, every verse, every bridge can make a human being feel some sort of way. I realized that when I was young, and now when I write, it is my goal to try to evoke lasting emotion so my listeners are left with something a little more.”

The last person I asked had the most touching response. His life changing song is “Siberian Breaks” by MGMT, which is the most interesting song that I listened to. The song is divided into six parts and each part has a different sound. He explained that it was his “go to” song in his lowest and highest moments. The song helped him through a deep depression and made him feel happy. He liked how each part gave him and different feeling and it took his mind off of everything else. “So now I still listen to it a lot when I’m feeling down and it reminds me how things could be worse and then a listen to it when I’m feeling up in the clouds because it reminds where I came from during my low times. It keeps me humble,” he explained.

Whatever the song may be or who wrote it or even what it means in somebody’s life, is very personal. Not everybody will have a song that changed his or her life, but those that do hold it very close to their heart, whatever the reason may be. Music will not judge and neither should you. So, is there a song that changed your life?

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
