Run along and play my son,
I do not wish your work begun
For when you start upon that path
Your feats might bring you to god's wrath.
What’s over there? Go run and see!
You are still young, don’t let it be.
Keep on your wondering if you can
Those who forget to, become bad men.
I see the small castle you’ve made on your own
It's much like a kingdom which I’ve overthrown
There once was a Pharaoh whose cities were grand
No more are they there in the vast shifting sand.
Dear boy I must tell you don't reach for the sky,
The walls you may build will one day be a lie
Spend your time simply while sharing in love
For an empire destroyed merits less than a dove.
You might build yourself statues to heighten your fame
But if you lose friends, who’ll remember your name?
The statue will fall, and your face will erode
Pay head to me son, do not follow that road.
Joy can not be bought and is not made of stone
You won’t find it there in your hollow gold throne,
But I believe in you son, that you’ll understand joy.
I believe that you know, even now as a boy.
