Sometimes You Have To Be Your Own Best Friend
MaryKate Henderson

Those eyes of yours; they have had the privilege of watching every life experience. Those ears of yours; they have had the opportunity to hear every bit of advice and wisdom people have given you. That mouth of yours; has allowed you to share your beautiful thoughts with the world. That brain of yours; has allowed you to learn, to discover, to think and to be the person you are today That heart of yours; it’s yours for a reason don’t let other people define it, let your heart beat for yourself. You know yourself better than anyone else

Part of “being your own best friend” is doing what is going to make you happiest and knowing what things or people will be an asset to your own happiness. If you feel as though someone is no longer serving a positive role in life, have the strength to gracefully walk away. Friends and family can give you all the wisdom and advice in the world, but you are the only one to hold the power in making that positive change. There’s a quote that is a good one to keep in mind, “I’m starting to love the sound of my feet walking away from what’s not meant for me."

Build your own circle, surround yourself with people that laugh at the same things you do. Surround yourself with people that have a heart like your own. Surround yourself with people that celebrate your successes as if they were their own. Surround yourself with people that will build you up when you’re down. You have the keys to create your own happiness; find people that bring you the greatest joy, cherish them and appreciate them. As for the rest, wish them well, treat them with kindness, smile at them; but always remember who is on your home team and who is rooting for you.

Live the best life you can live, to people this could mean a variety of different things. Maybe to some, this means find the most success that you possibly can. Maybe to others, it means follow what they believe is their purpose on this earth. Personally, I always believed that the best life you can live is a “can’t stop smiling” kind of life. Laugh at as many things as you can, learn to laugh at yourself, learn to laugh through the tough stuff. Allow yourself to see the beauty in most things, once you open your eyes wide enough fall in love with as many things as possible.

Know that you are constantly growing- every experience allows the opportunity for growth, take it. Try your best at everything, if you do you can always look back on every experience and smile. Do things that make yourself happy, take time for what’s important. Don’t forget to live, and by this I mean we are constantly working towards something which is very admirable; however, find joy in the journey as well as the destination. Don’t give up on anything that makes your face light up when you talk about it, that dream you have - conquer it. Be yourself, fall in love with yourself.

I think you owe yourself that much, to be the person you always wanted to be. Take care of yourself- eat your vegetables, take the time to go to the gym, stay healthy. Appreciate where you came from, that is a huge part of who you are. Cherish the little things, you’ll look back and realize those were the big things. Don’t take life too seriously all the time, sometimes you’re supposed to be silly. Don't live for other people, live for yourself. Trust the process, life has a path for everyone; you may not understand the reason for everything at the time but trust in that everything happens for a reason and life has beautiful things in store for you. Be so happy that other people can look at you and be happy.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
