As much as I enjoy writing as a creative tool, it can be intimidating putting your thoughts on paper. It gives the most personal experiences a place to exist outside of your own mind and that can be terrifying. It takes a special kind of strength and a level of trust within yourself to come to terms with whatever it is you are struggling with.
Sometimes it can be very personal, so it doesn't matter if you are the only person to ever read it. So often in life, we feel pressure to pretend like we have it all together that we convince ourselves there is no room for negative emotions or experiences. That is a lie.
Sometimes they might be too hard to say out loud, and that is okay.
Writing offers us a place to dive deep into our mess, and it gives us the power to turn the page or close the book when it becomes too much. It allows us the freedom to take breaks, and recently I find myself taking a lot of those. Remember, it is okay to stop and rest.
Writing is hard because it acknowledges that these experiences are real, even though you already know it to be true. It forces you to confess your inner most demons, but on your terms.
This is exactly why I choose to write. Despite all of the pain and the uncomfortable feelings it brings about, all of the power is in my hands. There are no questions asked, and what I choose to do next is completely up to me.
It allows me the opportunity to take my power, my voice, and circumstances that I didn't have any control over, back.
Sometimes writing is hard, but it is always worth it.
