This past weekend I was driving up to see my boyfriend who attends Ball State University. It had been about two weeks since I had last seen him, so I was very excited to finally get to hug him and have a great weekend with him, but as I was driving up interstate 69 through Indiana my car decided to have troubles. I was eventually able to pull over into a gas station's parking lot and see what was wrong. My serpentine belt had completely snapped in half leaving me stranded an hour and half away from my home in Indianapolis, an hour and a half away from my college in Evansville and around two and half hours away from my boyfriend in Muncie. I did not know what to do, so I called my dad who stopped what he was doing, drove to where I was, and replaced the belt that had snapped. It was too late now to continue to Muncie, so I had to go back to my own home.
Luckily for me my boyfriend decided to drive down from Ball State to see me and my family. The next day we went to lunch and then went to my boyfriend's house to see his mom and siblings. It was a great surprise for them and it brought peace to us after being away from home for around a month.
Saturday night we went to a concert in Noblesville and then went back to Ball State to sleep and then we hung out in the morning on campus until we had to say our "see you laters."
The point of this story is that sometimes the things that seem to slow you down may actually be exactly what you need. If my car would not have had issues I would have stayed two nights at Ball State, my boyfriend and I would not have seen our families or homes, and we would not have gotten to do nearly as much stuff as what we ended up doing.
Often we are so worried on the destination that we get upset with the ride, but sometimes the bump in the road is really a huge blessing is disguise.
As the Rascal Flats song goes, "Sometimes you just need a little home" and I am thankful that I was able to get a some over the weekend.
