Ahh summer... With college exams being finished up, freedom seems just around the corner. While I haven't finalized my plans for this summer at the moment, I do know one thing that I'm going to do. I know that I'm going to try something that I've never done before.
It feels like most summers, people do the same old same thing. They go to the beach like they have a million times, or sit around at home, watching movies and spending time on social media.
While there isn't anything wrong with doing things that you love over and over again, it's also good to try new things. I've definitely been guilty of doing the same things every summer. I know that in past summers, I've made goals to try something new. One summer, I tried to make a goal of running for super long distances, in the hope that I could participate in a marathon. It ended up that I didn't go running so I was never able to try something new. Whatever you try doesn't have to be something large. Maybe you've never tried Thai food, and you finally try it over the summer and discover that you love it. You'd never know that you like Thai food if you had continued to only eat American cuisine.
Trying something new is important. If you, the reader, were to try one thing, just one thing, you might find a new passion for something you never knew you'd enjoy. A lot of times, we are so busy doing the things that we know we enjoy, rather than try something new. Maybe you'll play badminton this summer and maybe you'll end up hating. However, what if you end up loving badminton so much that it becomes your favorite sport? You will never know until you try it out.
Reaching outside of what you normally do, may turn out to be one of the best decisions you've ever had. Maybe even try something that makes you feel a bit uncomfortable. Going outside of your comfort zone will help you grow greatly as a person. By pushing yourself, you can make yourself a better-rounded person, and you can accomplish anything that you may have had doubts on before. If you don't feel entirely comfortable, then that means you're making progress.
So when you have free time, choose something new to try this summer. You never know, you might learn something new about yourself!
