Close your eyes. Think of your favorite teacher. Someone who had opened your eyes to new ways of thinking, always gave the best advice, impacted you in a way no other teacher could, or simply just touched your heart. Odds are it was probably your English teacher.
English teachers are the ones who always influence you and are there for you as if a chemical is released from their body that says “approach and befriend me." Their door is always open and, like I said before, they really do give the greatest advice. They practically become your school parents but in a less stressful way.
Bonds made with high school teachers besides those you may be related to are special. When you go off into the rest of the world and college you will never forget the things they taught you. They will always be your teacher and most likely always be there for you as mine are. When you're having a bad day they give you chocolate or tell you a funny story. They aren't afraid to make a connection. It's no coincidence why in most books and movies like “Perks Of Being A Wallflower” the English teacher is always portrayed as a hero; a knight in shining armor for the main character.
The guidance they give is impeccable and always true to what is right. I remember on one of my last days of high school when I was sitting in English class and the teacher said that she had picked a song to send us off. As she played “Kite” by U2, a band that I didn't know as a uncultured and sheltered youth, she looked so starry eyed and I realized that she really cared about us. It wasn't just another teacher claiming that we were their best class as they had told the class before us she genuinely and wholeheartedly loved us. It wasn't an empty promise as past teachers had made, it was real emotion and I couldn't help but miss her already although she was sitting right next to me.
My English teacher before that was so down to earth. He believed in me when I didn't even think I could. He supported me and really got me to engage in his teachings. Before him, my teacher was so kind and patient. We connected through discussing our favorite poetry from a YouTube channel called “button poetry” and discovered we both had the same favorite. To this day I still think of him whenever I listen to that YouTube channel. We see each other from time to time and always make time to speak with each other for a few minutes.
My first English teacher was the amazing women who ended up being my last English teacher and I wouldn't have it any other way. The more time I could have with these people the better, the people who greatly helped shape me into who I am today.
There are so many more English teachers I've bonded with in my life and I know that it doesn't end in high school. I can't thank them enough. Greatness just seems to be something that English teachers must have in their veins.
