Something Has To Change

If you are not livid right now, you have not been paying attention. It seems every time I turn on the television or pull up my Facebook I am flooded with the latest shooting, most recent act of violence, a video defending an assembly of people or shunning a race. Frankly, I am sick of it. I am beginning to lose hope and faith that my generation can “pull themselves up by the bootstraps” and step up.

“Yeah, but how are we, as individuals supposed to change any of this?” The first step is to educate. Educate the generation below us, educate ourselves, know the differences between the people causing harm to our country and the people who are just collateral damage.

We are broadcasted a new issue every day. The most prevalent issues currently are the terrorism acts the world is undergoing from Muslim radicals, stress on the RADICALS, and the divide at home in our own country between race, and between authority figures. One of my largest irritations is the fear stemmed from the terrorism in our country is attached to Muslim. Muslim, the Webster definition of Muslim is – a follower of the religion of Islam. Islam - the religion of the Muslims, a monotheistic faith regarded as revealed through Muhammad as the Prophet of Allah. Reread that if you want to double check, but as far as I can see I do not see any mention of ISIS, of Al Qaeda, of terrorism or hatred of America. A Muslim can exist anywhere in the world. To identify with a religion does not mean you identify with the hatred of a terrorist group. Do we look at the people like Westboro Baptist Church as the values of all Christians?

Our generation is projecting our issues onto others. We do not take responsibility for our actions, we have a lack of knowledge, we are entitled. I am just as sick as the next young adult hearing the negative connotation of “our generation” constantly being told I have a lack of respect, I am lumped with people that are lazy, not driven, and I am “expect a handout.” Stop giving the generations before us a reason to call us failed, entitled and disrespectful. Change the attitude, change the actions.

Our country has been an example for others forever of being land of the free home of the brave. We the people, are what made this country for the free and a place for the brave. when did we stop being the people that made America what it was meant to be.

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
