As election day has drawn closer, the tension has risen higher. Originally I was excited for this year, knowing it was my first time to have a say and cast my vote. Now as I sit on November 8th, 2016, the only thoughts that cross my mind are this: I am ready for this to be over. I knew that the race to the white house was going to be historical. What I wasn't anticipating was the trouble and the mess left behind.
I have seen people spew hate and slam ones they used to call friends over the differences in opinion. It is nearly impossible to log onto Facebook without seeing a status with hundreds of comments, going back and forth in debate. What has this election done to us? You shouldn't be blocking friends and family for a difference in thought. Condemning others for their opinion in politics goes against democracy and free thinking. This country is all about freedom, so let others enjoy the right to their vote and candidate . You do not have to agree to live in peaceful cohabitation. Let your vote be your voice. The only "wall" that has been built this year has been among fellow Americans.
Another thing I am sick of? The over sharing of fake news. Come on people. Everyone that has done a high school research paper knows how to find a credible source. I can't help but laugh at the ludicrousness that is on my feed. I beg you for my sanity and others, take what you read with a grain of salt. It looks poorly on your part when you try to refer to something that is not true.
If you didn't vote, stop debating and stop complaining. You can not be upset about an outcome if you did nothing to help contribute.
So, as we anxiously await to see who will lead this country for the next 4 years, let's all promise that next election season we will do a little better. Start by maybe apologizing to the newest addition to your blocked list. Whether you agree or not, they have a right to their own opinion. There is no reason to discontinue a friendship. Also, if you do anything, let's stop with the trigger finger sharing of fake news. Even if you have to pretend you're writing a paper, PLEASE make sure it is real. Oh, and next time? Make sure to register and hit the polls next time. Your vote does matter!
America, may the odds be ever in your favor.
