To Someone I Used To Know
Colorfully

I can vividly remember who you used to be.

You once were the sweet, loving, doe-eyed and bright smiled classmate of mine. Days with you were spent in your car drinking milkshakes, sending hilarious Snapchats and talking about our day, not forgetting even the slightest details. Nights consisted of crafting sessions, late night Walmart runs and extra hours procrastinating on homework to watch another movie. We shared with each other our hopes and dreams, motivating each other to keep going when the going got tough. I knew you better than I knew myself, and could read you like the back of my hand.

Then, somewhere down the line, we drifted apart.

We didn't mean to hurt each other. We didn't mean to stop putting each other as a priority. We simply just stopped needing each other. We started becoming more independent. Our friend groups shifted, our minds changed. We became people we didn't think we would ever be.

I see you every once and awhile and I think about your weird scar, or your little sister or your upcoming basketball game. I remember the time we went hiking and got lost in the rain. I wonder about how your classes are going and how far along you are on your degree plan. I look at you and think of all these things-- however, you aren't that person anymore.

Yes, you have the same dirty blonde hair. You still wear that faded pair of blue jeans. You still work at the same place you've worked for the past 2 years. But you're just a shell of the person I used to know.

I don't know anything about you anymore. I don't know your new goals or your plans for the summer. I don't know how things are going with your new significant other. I don't know a lot of things that I once could recall so quickly.

I've finally realized that's okay.

Looking back through the months of not having you by my side has made me realize how fortunate I am to have had those days with you. I am thankful that you were there to influence a part of my life when I needed someone like you the most. You were there to pick me up on the days when I fell short and stood by my side on the days when I conquered the world.

Somewhere under the new wardrobe and new demeanor is the person I trusted wholeheartedly. I know deep down you are still that quirky, somewhat dramatic person I welcomed into my heart. But for now, you are just someone I used to know.

To the people who know you now, I hope they are able to see the person you once were deep down inside. That is my favorite version of you. However, life happens and God has pulled us down two separate streets that intersect every once in a while. Maybe one day we'll sit down for coffee, do some soul searching and find the broken and untouched remains of the old team we once were.

I hope everyone enjoys the new you just as much as I liked the person you used to be.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.

What's up Asshat,

I've composed a list of things that I wish upon you, and they're harsh and cruel. These things are things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst of enemies, not even that Starbuck's barista who always screws up my order, not even him. You fall into a whole other category of hate. You surpass Starbucks barista. Congratulations, I'm actually a pretty nice person, making you worthy of every single bit of torture I wish upon you. What are these things I wish upon you you might ask?
