Sure we practice true Southern hospitality. However, if you want to stay on our sweet side you might want to avoid doing these 10 things.
1. Tell us that we take football too seriously.
In Alabama, football, whether you roll with the Tide or walk with the Tigers, isn't just a sport. It's a way of life! If we take it too seriously, then so be it!
2. Do NOT insult our family.
You shouldn't make fun of anyone's family, especially in the South. Here in Alabama, we always have our family's backs. Always! And family doesn't have to be blood-related down in the South either don't forget it!
3. Claim our barbecue isn’t the best
Don’t play with us. We know it, you know it. Alabama barbecue is the best!
4. Tell us there’s nothing to do here
Alabama offers plenty of things to do. For example, it seems as though there's always some type of fair, festival or concert going on. Not to mention, we have our beautiful Gulf Coast beaches. If you think there's nothing to do here, take a drive and explore the state. You'll find several things to do soon enough.
5. Tell us we don’t know what good cooking is.
This is truly absurd! Everyone knows Southern cooks are the BEST cooks!
6. Tell us you don’t have sweet tea.
What a tragedy! Being told there's no sweet tea available can definitely change the mood of a dinner. Plus, who wants a boring glass of UN-sweet tea? No thank you!
7. Practice bad manners
Whether it's practicing poor table manners or being rude to strangers for no apparent reason, we frown upon bad manners here in the South.
8. Make fun of our accent
We know deep down your jealous that you don't possess a thick Southern drawl like we do and that's OK. But don't try to make fun of us to make yourself feel better this is so not cool, so don't even try it!
9. Call a soft drink “soda” or “pop”
Here in Alabama, we don't use the terms "soda" or "pop." Every soft drink is simply a "coke."
10. Everyone from here is a redneck
Puh-leeze! Alabama is home to NASA, world-class medical facilities at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, biotech research, aerospace engineering, the Robotics Technology Park, and all kinds of cultural activities such as the Shakespeare Festival theater group.
Yes, we know who Shakespeare was. Some of us can even quote him.
Being from Alabama means something different to each person who lives here. But at the end of the day, we all love our beautiful state and will gladly defend it!
