I’m a total sucker for a good Disney movie. Honestly, it’s pretty hard to get me to dislike a Disney movie (unless I watch it over and over again for years because it was my brother’s favorite movie.) In no particular order, here are some of the Disney movies that I think deserve some more love.
1. The Emperor’s New Groove
There isn’t anything not to love about this movie. It’s possibly one of my favorite movies ever. Yzma and Kronk are arguable the worst Disney villains imaginable. They honestly suck at being villains, but their attempts at being bad are hilarious. Kuzco and Pacha both go through some great character development and growth. Plus, I love llamas and this movie is all about llamas. Like, I said, nothing not to love.
2. Lilo & Stitch
I love this movie so much. Lilo and Stitch was really popular when it first came out, but I feel like people kind of forget about it. The music is amazing, the animation is fantastic, and the characters are incredible. No one can deny the perfect soundtrack filled with Elvis and Hawaiian music. Or the fact that aliens and humans are portrayed as coexisting peacefully (after some initial problems) is also great. And the story has parts that are both adorable and heartbreaking. It’s practically perfect.
3. Monsters Inc.
Technically this is a Pixar movie, but I’m still counting it because it was released by Walt Disney Pictures. But this movie is amazing. Mike Wizowski and Sully are one of my favorite movie duos ever. Also Boo is arguably one of the cutest animated children ever. Plus, the Abominable Snowman is also super cute and hilarious.
4. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
I have loved this movie since I was little. It’s a compilation of four shorter featurettes strung together into a film. My mom says that I used to make her rewind my VHS (throwback right there) over and over again. I found out over the summer that it’s on Netflix and made my mom watch it with me, that’s how much I love this movie.
5. The Princess and the Frog
Tiana is honestly the most underrated princess. She spends most of the movie as a frog, but that’s beside the point. It’s a great movie set in 1920s New Orleans with some super fun jazz music. There’s some great music, talking animals, and amazing animation. Though, that’s really what I expect from Disney movies. Really, what’s not to love?
This is a totally subjective topic, of course, but this is my take on it. Disney movies are great and I have yet to run into one that I don’t like. But these are the ones that could definitely use a little bit more love. I’m sure you’ve got some different ideas, so let me know what you think!
