"So what if I'm crazy? The best people are"

{Some Of} The Best Melanie Martinez Lyrics

Melanie Martinez has been seemingly popular the past two years, and there is a reason why: she's clever, witty, wise beyond her years, and completely creative. Her songs are catchy and at times, dance-able - but what about the lyrics? Those definitely shouldn't be looked over, because most of {if not, ALL} of Melanie's songs are well written and straight from the heart in all it's rawness and authenticity. From lyrics about feeling like an alien in the world, to shy love songs, Melanie is a breath of quirky fresh air that we can all still relate to in so many ways. Here are some of my favorite lyrics from her songs:

"You've been riding two wheelers all your life, it's not like I'm asking to be your wife. I wanna make you mine, but that's hard to say. Is this coming off in a cheesy way?" -Training Wheels

This song is one of my favorites from Melanie, because it's a love song expressed in a really sweet and unique kind of way. This is one of the most hopeless romantic songs. The lyrics above are gentle and naive, and is basically someone just saying "I like you. I just like you, and I want to be around you because it makes me the happiest", but that's not always easy.

"Everyone thinks that we're perfect. Please don't let them look through the curtains" -Dollhouse

It's pretty self explanatory, and I love it. Not everything is what it seems, and not everyone is as perfect as they look - there is a story behind the smiles and the laughter, and so many work so hard at keeping that "perfect image".

"Chasing after you is like a fairy tale, but I,
Feel like I'm glued on tight to this carousel" - Carousel

I resonate with these lyrics right now. It's a love song about someone who has fallen for another person, but the romance and/or the relationship feels so unattainable. However, you can't help but continue to chase after the person. You're stuck on the ride of your life still thinking about them constantly, even after knowing how far away this person seems.

"You're one of a kind and no one understands, but those cry baby tears keep coming back again" -Crybaby

I think these lyrics describe a someone who is very empathetic and sensitive, and often feels like nobody understands them because they are so emotional at times.

"The normal's, they make me afraid. The crazies, they make me feel sane". -Mad Hatter

This is someone who feels like they don't necessarily fit in with the rest of society, or the "normal" crowd. They feel the happiest when they are surrounded by outsiders like them, who are looked at as "weird". It can be lonely at times, but being around those who eccentric like you, is comforting.

"Kids are still depressed when you dress them up, and syrup is still syrup in a sippy cup" -Sippy Cup

No matter how hard you try to cover up a mistake or how unhappy you are, nothing is going to change in the end unless you change yourself or the whole situation. No make up in the world will make you prettier if you are really a mean person, and "syrup is still syrup in a sippy cup", is a metaphor for the entirety for the song - because at the end of the day, that's what it all comes down to.

"I'm tired of being careful, tiptoe, trying to keep the water warm - let me under your skin" -Soap

This song is about wanting to let your feelings run wild, but not wanting to scare the object of affection away. The lyrics describe someone keeping a calm distance not to ruin their chances with someone they admire, but in all honesty, they just want to submerse themselves in this person and fall in deep. "Now I gotta wash my mouth out with soap" is to say "I shouldn't have said too much. I shouldn't have said how I feel about you".

"Maybe it's a cruel joke on me. Whatever, whatever. Just means there's way more cake for me. Forever, forever" -Pity Party

These lyrics also resonate with me, because I've dealt with my own kind of toxicity with friends. I think these words are important and clever, because it's saying "So what if these people don't want to be in my life. They weren't my friends to begin with. Might as well have some fun on my own". It's teaching people that it's OK to be alone sometimes and to not always be surrounded by people - especially if they are fake and unreliable.

"You can crush my candy cane but you'll never catch me cry. If you dangle that diploma and I dead, you, don't be surprised" -Alphabet Boy

This lyrics bluntly say "try and make me feel stupid all you want, I know that you're a pretentious loser and I'm still fabulous".

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
