This has been an especially rough November so it's great to know the Holiday season is in full swing, Thanksgiving just passed and Christmas is right around the corner. While it is nice to celebrate, we need to keep in mind what is happening in our country. Whether you are continuing to help fight against the hate that is being spread or you want to start, donating to these organizations is the perfect way.
We'll start with an obvious one, Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood can be a sensitive organization because many associate it only with abortions. In reality it helps women, children, and even men in low income areas gain access to health care they wouldn't usually be able to afford. Checkups and health care given at Planned Parenthood can help save peoples lives. If you would like to learn more information click here and if you would like to click here.
American Civil Liberties Union is another great option, especially after the "Right to Work Act" that was proposed on the ballot, which would cut income to unions. Even though VA voted no on that, it is good to donate to ensure that unions will stay in full affect in the future. Native American Rights Fund could desperately use donations. With the protests still going on over the Pipeline in Standing Rock, they could use your donations. To read more about what is going on in Standing Rock you can read one of my old articles here and to donate/find out more about the Native American Rights Fund you can click here.
Immigration is an already very sensitive topic and the election results have made it even more sensitive. I don't care what your take on immigration is, all I know is that it is so hard to become an American citizen and in countries all over the world people don't have time to study and take an impossible test (which many American citizens couldn't pass) or apply for papers (which could take years) when their lives are at stake. TheNational Immigration Forum finds lawyers for immigrants already in the country to help them obtain jobs and citizenship. It is very hard to imagine having your world turned upside down and to be in a new country where even though it is better than where you came from, you're still scared. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has been helping people since 1909. Sadly a lot of what they fought for in 1909 is still a problem in 2016 so even though many might think the NAACP is part of history and was only used in the past, it is still around and used today. Their mission is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination. The Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund is an organization that fights for the rights of people with disabilities through advocacy, training, education, and public policy. For many people with disabilities they are discriminated against before people have the chance to meet them and can have a hard time finding a job or become independent. This fund will help them do that and more. To find out more and to donate click here.
Lambda Legal is an organization that fights for the civil rights of the LGBTQIA population. With Mike Pence as our soon to be Vice President many fear for the rights they just achieved. Lambda Legal does a lot with public policy so they will help ensure the rights of the LGBTQIA population in the upcoming years. To find out more information and to donate click here.
I know this article is full of other links and lots of information but not only is it important to donate to these organizations it is also important to be informed, they do so many amazing things for everyone in America. I know this isn't close to all the charities and organizations so if you have anymore that you think should be getting more attention, comment them below.
