We, As a Society, Need To Stop Apologizing For Showing Emotion

It’s okay to hurt and it’s okay to feel things, but here’s what’s not okay.

I don’t know how many of y’all have heard me say, “it’s about the comeback, not the comedown” but those are some words to live by. Time after time I see a friend get hurt and try to fake it until they make it but we have to stop doing this.

It’s okay to feel.

It’s okay to hurt.

It’s okay to show emotion.

Don’t push the emotions away. Don’t pretend they aren’t happening because they are. We are allowed to hurt. We are allowed to feel. We are human.

I would be more scared watching my friends go through things and be emotionally numb to it all. If you need to drive into the middle of a field and cry, drive into the middle of a field and cry. Listen up, I don’t even care if it's a full face of snot ugly crying. Let. It. Out. Do what you need to do and own every bit of it.

Not processing things is an act of self destruction that nobody needs to be participating in. If you need to be angry, be angry. If you need to scream, scream. If you need to block people, block people. If you need to throw punches, throw punches, just please not at a person. We all process things differently and that's okay. Just please, process it.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
