Many issues we face as a society wouldn’t be as big of a problem if we stopped bringing them up continually. When there is a problem in the world we have this need to talk about it, which is a good thing, until we become consumed with it. Letting things drag out years later, not that we don’t need to learn about it, but learning about it and obsessing are different things.
One of the big ones is racism, learning about it is crucial. However, we don’t need to bring it up and reward it. For example, Black History Month. Morgan Freeman said he thinks it's ridiculous. “If you talk about it, it exists. It’s not like it exists and we refuse to talk about it. Making it a bigger issue then it needs to be is the problem here.” It shouldn’t just be just a month, it's American history, seeming only important for a month span. If we really want equality, then we need to hold off on giving one race more than another, like you get a prize for being what you are. Otherwise we would have a month for everything, and there’s only 12 months in a year. He goes on to say, “I’m going to stop calling you a white man, and I’m going to ask you to stop calling me a black man.” We are all just people, who can be and accomplish whatever we want no matter the race.
Blowing up issues causes fear and anger, these are things we can avoid by dealing with the problem at hand instead of letting things linger. Stop talking about how our society once was and focus on the now. That’s the only thing we can change. We can move forward and solve the issues we have created in the past.
