It seems like every day you find out something about a company you like and shop with, that makes you question your loyalty to the company. It might even be that the quality no longer exists for the company but they continue to raise prices constantly expecting you to fall for it.

Instead of wondering who you are supporting, find companies that make products you love and can get behind. Here are some of my well-known favorites, click the links in the names to learn more and shop their products:

1. 10 Tree

Ten Tree's mission is pretty straightforward as they promise to plant 10 trees for every product purchased, regardless of the price of an item. They work to protect the environment and sell sustainable products that come from sustainable materials such as organic cotton, and recycled polyester to name just a few.

2. Patagonia

Patagonia is by far one of the most environmentally conscious clothing brands. Every step of producing and selling the products is thought of and ways to reduce their impact on the environment are taken. Starting from the materials they use for their products, such as fair trade cotton and fleece, and using mostly recycled products.

Their employees are encouraged to bike to work, the stores and factories are run with minimal energy usage such as lighting. In fact, on Black Friday they donated all $10 Million dollars in sales to grassroots nonprofits that work to protect, preserve, and conserve the environment.

3. Levi's

Levi's puts a lot of work in to reduce its impact on the environment, such as using as much as 96% less water to make their jeans, teaching farmers how to produce cotton in a more environmentally friendly way, following the Responsible Down Standard for down filling products (jackets), and recycling old Levi's jeans by patching them and selling them as one of a kind products to cut out the waste and by-products needed to make a new pair of jeans.

4. United By Blue

United By Blue works to keep our oceans and waterways clean, and they do this by promising for every product sold they will remove one pound of garbage from our waterways. So far they have removed over 1 million pounds of trash from US' waterways.

They also use responsible materials to make their items as well, such as organic cotton, and wool. They are also a certified B corporation which requires rigorous social responsibility.

5. Life is Good

Life is Good has been focused on positivity since day one; their designs, employees, locations, and advertisements reflect this positivity. Not only do they spread love and positivity to their customers, but they also have created the Life is Good Kids Foundation.

This foundation offers workshops for adult professionals (teachers, nurses, specialists, etc.) who work with children to teach them how to create positivity in the lives of the children they work with and help the children overcome adverse childhood experiences such as abuse, neglect, and other household issues.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
