5 Socially Distant Study Spots at UCF

We all know that COVID-19 has thrown our life off track – all our plans and goals were put on hold, swept to the side until a distant timeframe when everything would return to how it was before. However, this doesn't mean that our academics have to take a hit.

Finding safe spaces to study and learn is incredibly important for school – this keeps our grades and our motivation up. Establishing a routine is also vital; if we choose one study spot that works for us and stick with it, we'll be on our way to academic success in no time.

These are five of my favorite (safe) study spots when you're studying on campus at UCF.

HPA Building

The Health and Public Affairs building is relatively empty on most days. They have rows of chairs and tables along each hallway and couches in the center of the building. My favorite spot, though? The outdoor tables are hidden between the plants, which are located in between HPA and UCF Global.

Here, you'll find plenty of shade and a comfortable spot away from the crowd of Memory Mall.

Student Union Back Patio

Once the tables are back in their place, the back patio is a great place to study. There are some shaded tables and is a relatively quiet area away from crowds. Because it's located right behind the Student Union, you can take a lunch break inside by going to one of the many restaurants available.

Teacher's Academy Building

Trust me, I hadn't heard of this building until recently, either. The TA building is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of campus, right between Millican Hall and the Education building. It's quiet and clean, with a few tables and chairs that are usually empty. There is also so much light here, making it inviting and comfortable.

Millican Hall

Millican Hall is not just to sort out your financial aid. I started going here to study because of their quiet second floor, which looks out to the Reflection Pond and library. They have armchairs with accompanying tables, which make setting up your workspace a breeze.

Reflection Pond

The last spot – and my favorite – is the Reflection Pond. This is the most socially distanced spot and allows you to have a beautiful view of the pond. And during your study breaks, you can grab $1 ice cream cones on Wednesdays, which is a pretty sweet deal.

These study spots are great when you want to study somewhere outside of your bedroom. Explore what UCF has to offer and happy learning!

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.

Where do we begin when we start talking about our roommates? You practically spend every moment with them, they become your second family and they deal with you at your best and at your absolute worst. They are there to make you laugh just a little harder, cry a little less and make each day a little better. We often forget to thank them for the little things that they do to make college even a tiny bit easier and more fun. This list of 26 things are what you should thank your roommates for right this minute and every day that you live with them.
