To this day I have never owned an iPod or iPad. I received my first apple product when I was thirteen and I got an iPhone 4. (remember those dinosaurs) So compared to many kids in my class, I was behind with social media. Sure enough, I got right up to speed with creating a Snapchat, Instagram, and Twitter. I thought connecting with all these people and sharing my life all over the internet was exhilarating.
Fast forward all these years, and I'm a bit tired of social media. It brings up so much controversy and makes a contest between people. Since when did a follower count or likes make you so cool? To be quite honest, the fact that people become famous on social media from being attractive is insane. Vanity in our society has gone way out of control.
Over the past few years, I have created new Twitter and Snapchat accounts to clear out the unwanted "followers." There were people I hadn't even met face to face I was connected with and I saw no point in having them know so much about my life. Just last night after talking to my mom on the phone, I went through and deleted contacts from my phone. There was no need for numbers of people I haven't had contact with in years!!
Personally, I feel that social media is used for attention and an outlet for things people wouldn't always say in person. People become a little naive and believe everything they read as well. Another huge issue, (I haven't personally experienced) cyberbullying. When it comes to social media. TAKE IT WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.
