If you're on any form of social media, I'm sure you've seen all your favorite celebs and keep up with their every move (okay, maybe not their Every move). As performers, we get told day after day about how important connections are, but something new to the world on a stage is social media.
I'm not just talking about a Facebook page that people can like but never reach you at. I'm talking about having almost every social media site to post work and auditions and opportunities people might not always see. Yes, I'm saying you should shamelessly promote yourself and your work. People can and will say it's annoying but it's the best way to keep your personal and work life separate. It's also an easy place to keep a documentary of the work you've done. You can get feedback from all over the world and sometimes get those once in a lifetime chances you might not normally have gotten.
A basic checklist would be:
-a business Facebook page with your work phone, email, website link, YouTube link, etc
*for performers, an Instagram with pictures of show titles or videos of work you've done would be helpful, since it shows a glimpse of what you're working on.
-a website to put it all together. This should include links, phone numbers, emails, pictures, videos, current events, and any other information relative to your job.
Social media has become so big in society it is now a practical and useful source of communication and a great way to keep up with friends, idols, professionals, and everyone else under the sun.
