Are We Social Media-Obsessed?
ON The Blog

Would you say you're a social media addict? Is your phone always open to check what everyone else is doing? The last few has been a boom for technology, apps and really anything to do with out cell phones. The options are endless to create new programs and to keep us all connected, but are we too connected?

Social media is everywhere with such easy access to our cell phones. You feel the need to join Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. We have to be up to date on everything like our peers, and it has become too much. We spend more time updating what were doing on or Snapchat story then actually living our lives.

Have you ever looked around at an event? The Fourth of July is a great example with the fireworks display because instead of seeing people looking up at the sky, you see them with their phones to the sky. They're documenting every moment to later post up on social media. When the morning comes though will you remember what you saw or will it only be lived through the pictures you took and the videos you filmed? Were you even there to live that moment with the people around you? That decision is how you take advantage of social media.

There are benefits to social media of course. You can connect with people you never thought you would and you could capture moments you can look back on all in one place. It's like a modern scrapbook. It also allows you to have your own space to share what you want and how you feel. It can be good for certain reasons, but are we sharing too much? The answer is yes. The opportunity to share is always there, but not everyone wants to know your politic thoughts on Facebook and the restaurant you ate at on Snapchat. Sometimes it is better to step away and share less with the world.

Social media is a great aspect to our world, but it shouldn't be your whole world. Look outside and take some moments in. Those memories might pass you by, but your update on Instagram can wait.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
