Social Media: Good Or Bad?

Just about everyone uses social media. From Facebook, to Twitter, to Instagram, everyone has at least one social media platform. About 90 percent of people do not really know how to use social media. The funny part about social media is that it has its ups and downs all the time. From posting something that was great and saying that it was a good time meeting everyone to posting something that you may think is wrong and your friends not feeling the same way you do, social media can be seen as many different things. So is social media good or bad?

Most kids and their parents have either a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or even Snapchat. We use social media just about every day to keep in touch with friends and even to keep up with close family members. There are so many wonderful things that we can with social media. We keep track of our favorite celebrities on Instagram and on Twitter. Seeing pictures of family that live in another state is a major positive. Social media like Facebook and Twitter keep us up to date with news 24/7. We even get to learn new ideas on how to make things on the app Pinterest. I mean, who doesn’t like learning new ideas?

Our parents have always told us that anything that ever gets posted online, stays online forever. You can never get rid of that picture that you posted the other day. Just because you delete it off Instagram or Facebook, you think that you will never see it again, but you are wrong. That embarrassing photo that you just took off is still floating out there in outer space on the Internet. That photo can haunt in your future. From applying to college to applying to your dream job, that one photo can prevent you from getting anything in our life.

But did you know that social media can also be a bullying method as well? Posting something like photos or just status updates about a certain person can really hurt that person, whether you meant to or not. When that person sees that it makes them feel bad about themselves, especially if the post has multiple likes. When they see their friends and your friends liking or posting comments on the post you posted, they can feel bullied and therefore feel very self conscious. This can lead to depression or even worse, suicide. So always be careful with what you post because you never know who may be watching.

So you have the good, the bad, and sometimes the ugly with social media. To me, it’s just a big stress and an aggravation to users around the world. It causes too much drama. I am not trying to tell you to stop using social media, but limit your time with it and focus more on yourself than on others. Always remember—watch what you post and always do good things to be posted online.

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
