In todays society, many people don't think twice about what they post online. While it's super cool to be able to connect with friends and family around the globe, it's important to watch what you post. Here's some guidelines I like to follow.
1. Act the way you want to be treated.
This is a golden rule for life in general. If you want to be respected, respect others. Of course this won't always happen, but you should still strive to be the bigger person.
2. Always remember that anything you post/comment online can and will be held against you.
They will follow you for a long long long time. If you wouldn't want it on the cover of New York Times, or for your great-grandma to see it, you should just say no.
3. Watch your tone.
If you're consistently bragging or complaining, people aren't going to want to read what you have to say! Be hesitant, and respectful. You especially don't want to hurt someone else feelings.
4. When you're uploading a picture with friends, be sure to think first.
If it's a bad picture of them, do you think they want it online? Your actions can affect them as well! It's never a bad idea to get their approval.
5. If someone says something displeasing, ignore it.
That's the graceful thing to do. Agree to disagree, and move on.
6. Don't over share.
I hate to break it to you, but all of Facebook doesn't want to know about your bodily functions, or every detail about your break-up.
7. Don't get too personal.
Arguments and feuds are best kept offline, because you can't see emotion over a computer screen. And you definitely don't want to begin a fight over something petty.
8. Don't consistently ask people to like and follow your page.
It gets annoying, and that doesn't really work to gain followers either.
9. Don't overload everyones feed, and keep some things private.
Keep it minimal. No one wants to see 10 tweets/status'/insta posts in a row. While your life might be great, you don't want every piece of it online. Keep some of it private. Keep people wondering.
10. Represent.
When you begin working for a company, you represent them on and off the clock. Also keep in mind when applying for new jobs, they will more than likely scroll through your pages. Don't make a fool of yourself, keep it classy.
11. Spell check.
One of my biggest pet peeves is when people either don't spell out words, or they misspell simple words.
