The Importance of Voting

Social Media And The Election

I want to start off by saying how imperative it is that you vote this year. With that being said, although I am not into politics at all, I am informed. This is a highly controversial election and with the constant social media coverage of every mistake the candidates make or anything that happens with them ever, is a bit overboard.

I completely understand that we live in a world that has the technology to get information instantly, however the amount of social media coverage that happened when Hillary Clinton became ill at the 9/11 Memorial was saddening. She is a 68-year-old woman, who got sick. It happens, especially when you think about the stress she's under and the fact she has been on the road campaigning for a long time. A lot of the time we forget that these candidates are people. They're not just presidential candidates, they are parents and grandparents as well.

Like I said, I'm not into politics but there were times when a trending topic was one of the candidates for weeks straight for no important reason, while more pressing issues weren't even being talked about. I remember there was a point this summer where every day a new issue had came up in a speech or interview. It was coming to a point of being ridiculous.

Aside from the media's constant worry about every unimportant detail, this election has been high stakes from the beginning. I'm not here to give my political view, that's not my point, but I believe it has been very obvious that both candidates have made huge mistakes in the past. To say the least, the Email Scandal and the countless racist comments that have been made by both Clinton and Trump, have made deciding on a candidate for this election a hard choice to make.

The issue with an election such as this one is that it will discourage people to vote, which is the exact opposite of what needs to happen. If you get one thing out of this article let it be this: No matter what your political affiliation is, no matter who you believe is the better of two evils or whatnot, you have to vote. If you don't vote, you can't complain about what happens. I understand that it's not an easy choice to make and the presidential election is a serious matter. All I ask is for people to stop caring as much about every small insignificant tidbit said, and to make yourself aware of what's going on. Don't just look at social media, actually look up the platforms and research the candidates. Make an informed decision and VOTE!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
