On October 19th, Soccer Mommy (aka Sophie Allison) is releasing her new 7" in two versions. There is the limited edition red smoke vinyl with only 500 copies available and then the regular black vinyl. But no matter which copy you get your hands on, the 7" will contain a re-worked version of her song "Henry" off of her "For Young Hearts" collection on its A-side. Then there will be a cover of Bruce Springsteen's song "I'm On Fire" on its B-side. You can grab your copy of Soccer Mommy's Henry/I'm On Fire 7" from Fat Possum Records here.
Allison re-worked "Henry" but didn't change it in any drastic ways. The only major difference is that it has been slowed down. The same can be said for her cover of "I'm On Fire." She changed Springsteen's song into a song that is much rawer and emotional. Allison does this because she "wanted to make a version of 'I'm On Fire' that connected with the sadness of the song." By stripping the song down to its core you can fully appreciate it for what it was meant to be. If you didn't know any better you could believe that this was just another one of Soccer Mommy's songs since the lyrics fit so cleanly into her "chill but sad" style which she defines herself as on her Bandcamp. It's no wonder this cover was a fan favorite whenever Allison performed it on tour.
