Soak In These Precious Moments

Life is too short.

Soak In These Precious Moments
Elizabeth Aroune

Every single day life passes us by, and most of the moments in the day go overlooked and underappreciated. The time we live in is fast paced. We live in a full-force sprinted world. Life may seem like a race, but even in a race the competitors are encouraged to take in the beauty they are running in.

The beauty surrounding us as we race through our days should inspire us; it should motivate us. Too often do we forget that life is good, despite the bad circumstances we sometimes find ourselves wrapped up in. We focus too much on the bad, and we don’t even realize when something is good. It seems that good has become mediocre, and the only emotions we as 21st century humans will recognize are the extremes: detrimental depression and euphoric happiness. But good is great and great is fantastic, and life can always - and will always - have some aspect of good in it.

Something does not have to be extraordinary to be beautiful. That’s the thing about the human race: Just being human is amazing. We are all unique individuals and that should make every day special. We have fingerprints that only we can claim. We have the ability to make our mark on the world in a way only we can. Every single person is different, but we are all connected, and that is something we forget.

The way your sister laughs is probably a detail you don’t notice, until of course you hear it on your voicemail when you are away at school and feeling homesick. The way your grandma stocks the kitchen with your favorite dishes when you come to town is something that you’ll want to reciprocate in the future when you have grandchildren. These small acts of everyday simplicity are routines we don’t take note of in the present, but why not?

One day you may not be able to remember the way the house lights up when your siblings come home, or the way your parents hold hands on the back deck as they watch the summer sun set. So, while we are living these moments, we should soak them in.

Every day has so many moments of love and happiness. And even though every day is also peppered with moments of sadness, we need to remember to be present in every situation so we can take advantage of the time.

Life’s currents are rapid. They move quickly and they can shake you off your feet. Every day there are surprises and every day you’ll be faced with new challenges of all sorts. But that’s life and we have to take it all in, because that’s what we’re here for. Let’s get to living.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
