Staying motivated after the face-stuffing, present-opening, and sleep-filled holiday season is rough to say the least. While we all talk about getting off our asses to accomplish a personal challenge, we instead binge-watch the latest shows added to Netflix.
We believe if we miss one day, it's over; there's no longer a point. Our New Year's resolution has been terminated. But who wrote the rules on New Year's resolution? God? Mother Theresa? Blair Waldorf?
Nope, none of them, because there aren't any rules!
Creating a New Year's resolution for yourself is a personal goal. Sometimes we have great days where we're motivated and feel on top of the world. Those are the days we'll spend extra time at the gym, or create a healthy dinner for the whole family.
Other days, however, we barely leave bed, and we stuff our faces with Toll House cookie dough. No one is perfect, and no one successfully accomplishes their New Year's resolution every single day, even if they claim they have.
Don't be ashamed or upset because you missed one day at the gym. That's not a disaster, it's just reality. The brillant Johnny Depp once said, "Just keep moving forward and don't give a shit about what anybody thinks. Do what you have to do, for you". Your New Year's resolution is for no one but yourself. If you're struggling with a resolution, and you're doing it for someone else like a boyfriend or a parent, that's not a surprise.
A New Year's resolution is meant for you and no one else. And that's not selfish. You deserve to be happy, so if that New Year's resolution you started just a few days ago is not in your best interest, then change it! Who said a New Year's resolution has to start exactly on January 1?
Again, no one.
So who's feeling motivated to kick some 2017 booty? I know I am, especially because I know there's room for mistakes. I'm allowed to mess up, as long as I get back up and keep going. And if this hasn't helped motivate you enough, here's a very relatable quote from the one and only, Lorelai Gilmore.
