So You're A College Freshman

You're about to move into your dorm and procrastinating what to pack. Don't procrastinate, because you don't want to make your mom or dad mail you what you forgot. I am sure you have an idea of what to pack, but please don't think you can pack your whole closet! You can't! Here are a few must haves when packing for college.

1. If you are rushing or joining a sorority, pack a decent amount of nice dresses and clothes.

2. Definitely pack an umbrella, rain boots, and rain jacket. I promise you will need them!

3. Shower shoes. Seriously, if you're sharing a bathroom with girls on your floor, don't shower barefoot. That's gross.

4. Towels. Multiple of them. I brought three or four towels with me in case I didn't get around to washing that week. You'll always have back up.

5. Tide pods. This is so much easier to put in the washer then regular detergent.

6. Winter clothes. I know once you move in it's pretty warm outside, but depending on where you are going then you'll need winter clothes before you know it.

7. Utensils, bowls, plates, and cups. I was lucky enough to live in a dorm that had a full kitchen, but if you live in a traditional dorm, you will only have a microwave and a fridge. I suggest buying disposable ones since you won't be able to wash your plates.

8. Lap caddy/desk. This is great for your laptop so it doesn't over heat. If you're laying in bed binge-watching Netflix, you for sure want to get this!

9. Comfortable shoes. Seriously, you don't want to walk across campus in sandals.

10. Chargers.

11. Snacks. The dining hall doesn't stay open forever!

12. Extra storage to put under your bed. This is extremely beneficial if you decided to pack your entire closet from home. Having extra storage allows you to put away the clothes you won't need for the time being.

13. TV. Talk to your roommate and see who wants to bring a TV/DVD player.

14. Keurig. Seriously, buy one.

15. Desk lamp. This will come in handy when working on homework or study.

16. Flash drive.

17. Extension cords and surge protectors.

18. Laundry bag. This will come in handy while walking to the laundry room.

19. Decor! You don't want your dorm looking like a jail cell.

20. Printer. You and your roommate can share, but sometimes it is beneficial to have one in your dorm room.

21. Robe.

22. Mattress pad. This will be the best investment ever, I promise.

23. Fan.

24. Two sets of Twin XL sheets.

25. Blankets.

26. Body pillow. This helps to put up against the wall.

27. Hand sanitizer. Seriously, wash your hands or use this every day to avoid getting sick.

28. First aid kit.

29. Hair dryer/straightener.

30. Have fun moving in!

Hope this list helps! I promise moving in isn't that scary, just make sure you don't forget anything!

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
