Let's not kid around - being an athlete is no joke. You have practice, training, private work out sessions, scrimmages, and games. Now add college to the mix. There are classes, tutoring, review sessions, team studying, private studying, and oh, tests. Nonetheless, if you love what you play, you are willing to take some risks...even if that includes passing out the moment you get back to your dorm.

Ha, no, no, I am not a student athlete, but my best friend is. So naturally, I get to hear all about the good, the bad, and the ugly - and worse, I witness it on a daily basis. Up to seeing what it is like to have your best friend be a student athletes?

Here are the the Top 10 Highlights:

10. Meeting them at 8am for breakfast

Because you know they have already been up for about three hours.

9. Their cheerful "good morning!"

Enjoy your fruit.

7. When they ask you to work out with them even though you know you should

Oh yeah, I would love to, but I have this thing I have to do...now...that I forgot about...

6. Seeing their defeated look in class after a long week

To be honest, this is the hardest part about being best friends with an athlete.

5. Surprising them with snacks and drinks at their class to hype them up

Strawberry-Banana smoothie and a bag of trail mix? Coming right up!

4. Going to all their games decked out in school colors

Air horn? Check. Flag? Check. Body paint? Check.

3. When they make an amazing play

You probably look and sound obnoxious, but who cares?

2. When the ref makes a call against your best friend's team

I don't care if it was the right call on your part ref, I'm still mad.

And most importantly,

1. When they win, you win.

All jokes aside, I admire my best friend for doing all she does for her team, for the school, when it comes to her classes, and for me. Maybe I cover my body in too much red, black, and white paint. Maybe I enjoy meeting my best friend's hot teammates. Maybe she can get me into parties.

On the field, and off the field, the best friends are always the best cheerleaders. Sorry Dallas Cowboys.

And remember, win or lose, you are your best friend's biggest fan.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
