So I Went Gluten Free

It's not as scary as it sounds... Promise.

So let's talk about it.

This week I made the huge leap in going gluten free. Crazy, I know. But I think I have a bit of insight, that maybe you might want to consider. I know the term "gluten free" is scary. I never once considered switching out of my pizza and bread diet for anything. But after doing some research, I think I found something I'm willing to (at the very least) give a shot.

1. Not everything Gluten Free is Gross!

Honestly, I think it's finding the right proportions and finding the right balance. After a few bowls of gluten free noodles, I don't even notice that there's a difference. Chocolate chip cookies are actually really good. Note that.

2. It's Not Hard.

Thinking about all the food I have to get rid of because it has gluten in it, BUT that really isn't the case. When looking at all the foods that I'm good to go with, you'd be surprised. Most restaurants have separate menus or even listed on the menu itself their options around it.

3. ALCOHOL IS OKAY.

WINE IS OKAY. I REPEAT WINE IS A-OKAY, well... most wine that is. Probably the coolest thing I read was that most of the alcohol (that I drink anyway) is gluten free. How neat is that?!

4. Feeling Good.

Even though it's only been a week(ish) I've noticed that I actually feel great. I feel like I have a whole new energy that I haven't really noticed before. Surprising, right? Me? Energy? Huh? Odd...

5. I Feel More Informed.

I honestly can say I feel like I'm more educated on the food I'm eating. I look at labels and pay attention to what's in the food I eat, which really isn't a bad idea! Everyone should be at least be informed with what I'm intaking.

Going from the girl who ate pizza 7 times a day, to a "health guru", I feel pretty accomplished. For anyone wanting a change in their diet, I would 10/10 recommend looking into a gluten free diet. Now if you'll excuse me, I have yoga. #GetZen

P.S. Yes Kenna, I can still get drunk pizza with you.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
