Ways in which we can help those affected by the recent hurricanes

If you have been keeping up with social media and the news, you might have heard the names, Harvey and Irma, too many times over the past few weeks. (No we are not talking about Steve Harvey). Who are Harvey and Irma you ask? They are two hurricanes that just hit two states in the United States.

Tonight, as I am sitting here in my bed at college typing this next post, there are people just like you and me, that lost everything. This is personal for me because my mom's cousins live in Dickinson Texas and they lost everything. If you are like me, I really want to find a way to help those who have been affected by the hurricanes.

There's been amazing support coming from other states to help with hurricane relief. In a world that is hurting it gives me hope to see people coming to help fellow Americans to get them back on their feet. That's what we are called to do. As Christians, we need to help our brothers and sisters in need.

We are in hurricane season right now and before it ends we most likely will see a few more hit somewhere. So what are some ways you could help in these upcoming months? Well, my first suggestion is possibly donating $5 or $10 to an organization that is helping; your local church, Red Cross etc. (just make sure it's not a scam). The second I have is to look into a possible mission trip opportunity. Maybe over an upcoming college break, get a group together and spend a week in either Houston or Florida in one of the areas to be the hands and feet of Jesus. The third and final suggestion is to pray. Pray for how you can help those who need it.

Let's start together by making a difference and help our brothers and sisters in Florida and Texas and helping them get their lives back to normal.

A prayer for the people affected by the hurricanes

Lord,

There are people out in our country tonight who have lost everything because of two recent hurricanes. Lord, sometimes we question "why does this keep happening?" or "what can I do to help?" Give us each a clear understanding of how we can make a difference in someone's lives by helping them recover from the recent hurricanes.

The people who have been affected by the hurricanes, Lord, give them hope. Help them to know that there are people out there who want to help them. Give them the strength to get through each day and remember to turn to you who will comfort and protect them.

I pray that you make it clear to those that what to help; what ways we should help by. Thank you for everything you do both big and small.

In Jesus name, we pray,

Amen

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
