So if you’re one of the many on social media recently that was distracted by the abundant “Arthur” memes that were taking over, you might have missed an important announcement. A North Korean Diplomat stated that we have “crossed the red line” and declared war against them by putting Kim Jong Un on its sanctioned individuals list. So if you don’t follow the government’s actions like you do the Kardashians, here’s what you need to know; The United States and South Korea have always performed military exercises south of the militarized zone and Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, always responded to with threats and antagonizing language. On July 6th, Washington placed Kim Jong Un on the sanctioned list and a week later, North Korea cut the New York channel, North Korea's final means of communication with the U.S. stating that all communication and interaction must be “dealt under war law.”
The Unites States put this sanction on Kim Jong Un and many others connected to the abuse of human rights according to a report by The United Nations Humans Rights Commission. Pyongyang denies abuse claims and says that the U.N. report was based on calumny from upset defectors. Now looking at this situation from the perspective of an average American, we seem to be doing what we have always been doing for 40 years now, since that is how long the US-South Korean exercises have been going on for. For some reason, we haven't been realizing that our “military blackmail against the DPRK and the isolation and pressure is becoming more open” as said by Han Song Ryol, director-general of the U.S. affairs department at the North Foreign Ministry. Since this declaration of war with North Korea, there has been an influx of memes joking on the matter and you can tell that there is definitely some sides to the matter:
The next question that usually comes to people's mind is “So…is there gonna be a draft?” Due to us living in a time where we thought that war was finally becoming eradicated and we could handle issues diplomatically, we can see that this is false. But to answer the question, POSSIBLY. Now there is a possibility that there could be a draft in place only if North Korea, although we know this isn't the case and won't ever be, decided to send troops across seas and put their troops on our soil, the U.S. military would want to draft soldiers to outman North Korea’s “million men” fleet. Due to North Korea’s population being roughly 1/15 that of the U.S., we would almost immediately repel any chance of an attack on our own soil using Naval and Air forces. Plus, we have a far better military program that is possibly two to three decades ahead of the North Korean military who hasn't really upgraded it's forces seriously since the 1980s! Also, we wouldn't have to worry about them leaving due to our treaty-bound NATO alliance with South Korea and Japan that causes them to respond when significant alliances are attacked. Meaning that their Korean Peninsula would be manned with the South Korean and Japanese armies to help the U.S.
Should we be worried about this war? Of course, it is our country and we cannot be blind to the actions of our country. Should we be afraid of this war? I wouldn't say afraid, just be prepared for the worst.
