I’m sure everyone has heard the tale “So God Made a Farmer,” and by now you might have heard “So God Made a Farmer’s Daughter” (my personal favorite), but I think we are missing the most important piece of the puzzle. God said, “I need someone with a soul full of patience and a heart full of love to keep the farmer and the daughter in line.” So, God made a Farmer’s wife. I’m far from being a wife, but I have had the pleasure of watching my mother my whole life and, boy, she is a heaven-sent angel.
God said, "I need somebody to stay by the farmer’s side, through the good and the bad, to hold his hand and listen to him worry and fret because there is a big rain coming and we still have beans to get out of the field. Someone to listen to the farmer ramble on about “so and so are growing another 80 acres of melons this year”, “this person just bought a brand-new combine”, or “I heard Steve down the road is going to sell all of his land and quit farming.” Someone who will give up fancy dates at restaurants for late night drives to go turn off the irrigation, check on the newly born calf, and load a trailer of hay." So, God Made a farmer’s wife.
God said, "I need somebody who will wake up the kids, get them ready for school, make their lunch, and see they make it to the bus on time. Someone who will work all day, take the dog to the vet, go to the grocery store, make dinner at night, help the kids with homework and still make time to do the laundry." God said, "I need someone who will be in the greenhouse at the crack of dawn and continue to work until she must take her daughter to a soccer game at 10 AM, then go back to work after until sundown. Someone to teach the children to be humble and kind, always give thanks, don’t cheat, don’t lie, and don’t hate. Somebody who will go to all the meetings at school, work at the concession stand during sports events, participate in multiple fundraisers and be a chaperone for the children’s fields trips." So, God made a farmer’s wife.
God needed someone to take care of all the paper work, pay the bills, keep records, make trips to the bank, post office and feed store. Someone who will keep the farmer and the daughter from arguing when they disagree, and stay up all night to keep watch on a sick foal because everyone else fell asleep. Somebody who has already spent a whole morning in the field before going to her hometown church for Sunday service where she leads a class of children. Somebody who always extends a helping hand, shares a heartwarming smile, gives endlessly and who, after receiving minimal credit for all they do, never complains but continues be selfless in every action. God said, "I need someone with gentle hands, who won’t cut corners when raising a family in faith and who at the end of the day will laugh and sigh and say “everything is going to be alright”"… So, God made a farmer’s wife.
