So Fisher It Hurts

You know you go to Fisher when...

So Fisher It Hurts
SJFC

If anyone knows me, they know how much I love Fisher! It's not only a college but a home away from home. Here are a few things that make St. John Fisher College (or The Fish) what it is.

Parking... or lack there of.

If Fisher students can agree on anything, it is the crappy parking situation (cough cough make park and ride into a garage cough cough). Security, on the other hand, loves to channel their inner Lil Wayne and make it rain parking tickets.

Larry From Lackmann.

One of my (and many others) favorites of the Lackmann staff. Larry struts around brightening people's days with his friendly, "Hey y'all, how's it goin'?" or lovely renditions of whatever songs are playing on the speakers. Filled with sass and warmth, Larry is a face I and many others look forward to seeing every day at Fisher.

... and Norma!

Norma is literally the cutest human being to ever exist and if you disagree you obviously don't go to Fisher. She's always there waiting to swipe you into the dining hall, with her cute little space heater next to her so she doesn't get chilly... ugh. So much love goes out to her!

Holding the door open.

You know that awkward gap of time in between knowing if you should hold the door open for someone or not? Well, here at Fisher that doesn't exist. Long story short always hold the door, or if you're in a rush, just press the handicap button for the person behind you.

Emails on Emails on Emails.

Fisher is the king of sliding into your DMs... well, your Gmail accounts. 99.9% of the time i get a notification on my phone, it's SJFC with the latest news, events, or anything else they can think to send us (500x a day).

Lavery Library is lit.

If ever you're feeling bored or alone, head on down to the library where you will literally see everyone that goes to FIsher. At just about any time of day, the library is one of the prime social spots..... oh, and you can study there sometimes too!

The Bus Stop.

#TBT to the good ol' days of Freshman year and riding the city bus on campus downtown Thursday nights to go clubbing. I learned a lot on that bus, like no matter how bad the Bills are sucking that year, someone will always start a "LET'S GO BUFFALO" chant (among many others...sorry Micelli)

Monday-Sunday Fundays

If any school knows how to have a good time, it's Fisher. Along with the plethora of on campus activities, the parties every weekend, there's always something going downtown too! Everyone knows Murphy's Mondays, Oxford's Wednesdays, Vinyl/Mex Thursdays, Public House Fridays, Mason's Saturdays.... the list goes on!

The Dining Hall Playlist.

Honestly, Lackmann is always bumpin great music around dinner time. If ever you need to catch up on what music is out there, you know where to go.

The football team & their table.

We all know (and love) our football boys, and we all know where they sit! Everyday, whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you can find at least 15 football players posted up at their usual spot in the dining hall; the last two long middle tables on the left hand side (duh). If you're lucky, you'll even get to witness them calling out one of their other guys for sitting astray; "HEY _____ SITTING WITH YOUR GIRLFRIEND, OOOH".

Waking up 5 minutes before class.

At what other school can you wake up minutes before your class starts and STILL get there on time? It's the little things in life, people.

The walk to Murphy Hall.

Call us dramatic, but Fisher students are the champions of complaining about walking across the street. BUT with that being said, the treacherous 3 min. haul across Fairport Road can seem like a death march in the winter.

These are just a few of the millions of things that make Fisher what we know and love today. We are so blessed to go to such an amazing, and character filled college! I know I speak for many when I say I wouldn't want it any other way.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

Because we made it, and because high school seniors deserve to know what they're getting themselves into

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
