I applaud people for their accomplishments. Nothing makes me happier than seeing someone work their life away to receive a position or title. You earned it, my friend. Congratulations! What I can't stand is seeing Facebook statuses and Twitter posts with, "I am so blessed and humbled to be the next (fill in the blank with an awesome accomplishment)." Clearly, you are not humble or else you wouldn't be posting a status for the world to see.
I understand that you are excited and want to share your news with the world, so instead of saying you're humbled, say you're excited. Be truthful. You're proud so say you're proud to announce XYZ. But please do not say that you're blessed or humbled because you were blessed before you received that title. You were blessed because you woke up that morning. You were blessed because you ate a meal. You were blessed because you have friends with whom you can share you accomplishments.
And to say you humbly accept a position and boast about it on social media, doesn't that seem contradictory? If you were so humbled by being offered a position, you would unwillingly let someone else post about it. You wouldn't say a word except to maybe a few people. Humble people don't stand on top of mountains and tell the world how awesome they are. They just do them, and they are content whether or not they get recognized for their awesomeness.
I'm not against Facebook statuses announcing big and exciting news. I'm just against us lying about being humble and about being blessed. If this wasn't such a common practice, then there would not have been a reason for the invention of the phrase, "the humble brag". We are literally bragging about our lives and how awesome we think we are while hiding behind a completely transparent disguise of modesty. So why not be honest with yourself and with the world? You're excited and you did an awesome thing, just say you're excited and happy for yourself. Nothing wrong with being proud, especially when you deserve whatever reward or position you're receiving.
