There's Snow Place I'd Rather Be Than In The Snow

Call me crazy, go on. It's nothing I haven't heard before. I openly admit that I love the winter months because I love snow and I get looked at like I have three heads. Maybe it's because I've grown up in the Northeast so I'm used to it, I don't know. All I know is that I enjoy waking up to a fresh blanket of snow, catching snowflakes on the tip of your tongue, and pelting someone in the arm (face) with a snowball. I love the snow! (With the exception of one week when I got snowed into my house and couldn't get down to school for the start of the spring semester.) Nonetheless, I could never live in a place where it doesn't snow. I know some people need to live somewhere warm year round but that is not me...I need seasons. I need winter. I need snow.

Just this morning, for instance, I woke up in my little New Jersey house to find that it had started snowing just a half hour before I got out of bed. I opened the curtains in my bedroom and was instantly put into a good mood. Happy Saturday indeed! And while some may roll their eyes at the thought of having to shovel for God only knows how long to clear a path to your car to get away as fast as possible, my eyes light up. Sure shoveling kind of sucks and no one wants to be stuck out in the cold slaving away throwing heavy shovelfuls of that powdery white stuff, but it doesn't always have to be a chore. Also, once you're done shoveling, or building an igloo or a snowman or having a snowball fight or playing a rough game of tackle football or sledding, you can go inside, bundle up in warm sweaters and fuzzy socks, wrap yourself in the coziest blanket you have and start the water for the hot chocolate.

When you're all bundled and snuggled up (next to your favorite four-legged friend, of course), with a good book and a cup of hot cocoa, you don't have a care in the world, and you'd wish this day could last forever. In the famous words of Lorelai Gilmore, "everything's magical when it snows." She's right, everything seems so perfect when it snows. Everything is so pretty when it snows. And at night, don't even get me started on snow covering the lights. When there's just enough snow to cover the Christmas lights in trees and it looks like the snow is glowing...so pretty.

So contrary to how others may view them, I am definitely a girl who enjoys her snow days. I think of the snow as a time to find some peace in your head and take advantage of the cold to bundle up inside, or to bundle up in cute snow clothes (or too many layers of clothes that you can't put your arms down *cue infamous A Christmas Story quote*) and go outside for a neighborhood football game or intense snowball fight, not just to go shovel the driveway because your mom is making you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
