I Love Snow

Not everyone likes snow, but I adore it.

Many people think I'm crazy because I'm often the one excitedly looking forward to when it snows. A lot of people don't because it's hard to drive on, you have to scoop it out of the way, and it's cold. I know that many, kids especially, look forward to it because of the snow days. Which are nice, but...

I like to think of the other things that it can bring too.

Like how when it first snows and you're the first one in the household to go outside and make footprints in it! The sound of it crunching underneath the feet is like music to the ears. It's also really fun to make shapes out of your footprints, walking around in the yard. If anyone ever wanted to truly send a message to aliens, the first snowfall would be their best chance. They might have to get up a little early to make sure they're the first ones out in that yard or where ever they decide to go, but I'm sure in the end it would be worth it for them.

I absolutely love the way the trees ice over though. If I had to choose the thing that I think is the most beautiful in the world, I would have to say iced over tree branches. There's just something about the way they glitter in the sunlight and how some branches sag a little from the weight of the ice. I love when snow piles up a little bit on the thicker part of the branches too. For me, it's just something to behold and take in. They're especially pretty to look at during sunrise or sunset too because the ice will take on some of the hues of the sky as it changes in the light. It's also pretty great when the ice starts to melt! It can look kind of creepy because of the way the wood darkens because it's wet, but it's beautiful too!

I could also probably be considered slightly crazy because I find an odd beauty in the way snow becomes gross from being driven on and from all the bad things humans put in the air. It's a sad beauty, really, the way the pure white turns to a dirty brown/black as it starts to mix with the chemicals and mud. It reminds me how life takes the pure and innocent and turns them into tougher and more knowledgeable people. Life can be rough, but we can make it!

So, I love snow for more than the days it can sometimes get me out of class or because it's fun to throw a ball of it at my siblings. I love it because of the beauty that I find it can be. I love watching it as it falls from the sky, I love seeing it on the ground, I love it as it melts, and I miss it when it's gone.

I'm different from most people when I say that I love snow.

You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
