What I Miss About Snow Days At Home

Imagine you’re back in high school or middle school, or anywhere at home, and you hear that there is going to be a snowstorm the following day. What is the first thing that you do?

I’m sure younger kids are putting their pajamas on inside out, brushing their teeth with their opposite hands, flushing ice cubes down the toilet, and most importantly, sleeping with a spoon under their pillow.

Older kids, however, are constantly refreshing the snow day calculator website to see if the percentage chance goes up even just 1%.

Snow days are the best days, and you can only bet that the 5:30am call on your house phone and cell phone, and email to all possible emails is the only way you want to be woken up at that hour.

Being in college, snow days aren’t common at all, and these are only a few reasons I miss snow days at home.

1. Shoveling with my Siblings

Although shoveling seems like a daunting task, there is just something about doing this with your siblings that makes it 10 times more fun.

Figuring out what to wear outside so we don’t freeze turns into a fashion show and deciding which 2 of us get the shovels and who gets to clean the car never ends well.

2. Netflix and Movie Binge

Snow days gave my family the opportunity to just sit on the couch all day watching movies or binging a new TV show.

Knowing that your homework due was already done the night before means there are zero responsibilities that you have to take care of and Netflix is just calling your name.

3. An Excuse to Not Go to the Gym

Yeah, we all say that we will do a workout at home, but when it’s snowy and cold outside, will you really have the motivation to work out?

Snow days were great because you knew that you couldn’t drive to the gym, but also knew that you would be too lazy and cozy to do a workout at home.

4. The Smell of All Day Cooking Marathons

Whether cookies are baking in the oven, or soup is cooking on the stove, there is no doubt that your house will smell like yummy food on snow days.

I would do anything to go back into my house with that smell because it is unbeatable.

5. Hot Chocolate with Mini Marshmallows

Coffee > anything any day of the week, except for snow days. Waking up on a snow day knowing that you’re going to have the best cup of hot chocolate gets you out of bed before noon.

So, to everyone still lucky enough to have snow days, take it all in! There will be a day when you wake up in college during a blizzard and you will still be expected to make it to your 9:30 class.

April Ludgate from Parks and Recreation is notorious for her "I don't care" attitude. She speaks her mind without caring what anyone thinks of her. And despite her sometimes harsh words, April truly cares about the people she's closest to. These are all reasons she is the epitome of a college student. April complains whenever she has to do any kind of work, but ends up doing the work anyway. April Ludgate is the ultimate college student spirit animal.

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
