Don't even try to lie, we all hope and pray for a snow day during the beginning of spring semester. We just had a full month off of school, how can schools really expect us to just jump back into using our brains?

We watch the weather like we should study our textbooks, wear our pajamas inside-out and do crazy snow dances with the intentions that we will wake up to the UK alert telling us the amazing news, "all classes canceled!" Unfortunately, college snow days are just as rare as the sky not being blue. But, when that day finally rolls around, are you just going to sit on your couch all day and watch the snow fall? I sure hope not! Here is a list of 5 fun things to do in Lexington on those flurry days!

1. Head to the bowl outside of Willy T

Grab a trash bag, a cardboard box or a trashcan lid and make your way to the bowl with a few of your best pals! There's no better way to spend a day off, due to snow than playing in it!

2. If the cold is not for you, stay in and cuddle up

Head to the kitchen and make yourself the biggest, sweetest cup of hot chocolate you can make. Then make your way to the couch with the fluffiest blanket you can find. Curl up and warm up with the newest movie on Netflix!

3. Take a trip to Perfect North

If you and your best buddies are big into snowboarding and skiing make a day of it! Perfect North is the perfect place for you to spend a chilly day! Not up for the car ride? Make it time for lots of junk food and catching up with friends you have been to busy to hang with recently!

4. Get organized

If you are like me, after the first week of classes your room may resemble a bomb going off, your planner might be filled with chicken scratch and your textbooks may be lost somewhere in your mix of folders and laundry. A snow day is a blessing in disguise for you! Take the day to go through syllabuses, write out your schedule and label your new school supplies!

5. Grab a cup' o joe with your bestie

What better way to spend a cold day than to bundle up, make your way to the cutest coffee shop in Lex and gossip with your bestie about the hottest Kardashian news! Get caffeinated and warmed up all in one trip!

So, whether you are a stay inside type of person (me!) or the type of person who likes to jump into snow piles, make the most out of your day off! We all know they hardly come around so embrace it while you can!

And of course, at the end of the day, do your snow ritual and hope that you have another one tomorrow!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
