The 7 Best Things About Winter

Don't let winter get you down; it's time to get excited about the snow! Here are the six best things about winter:

1. Snow Sports:

Check out this awesome video of Peace Park; this is why snowboarding is addictive.

The ski atmosphere is growing in popularity. From park riders to all mountaineers, on skies or a board, there’s a certain rhythm that can be achieved when trying to control gravity’s pull with a waxed piece of wood.

From the quiet of the winter woods to the buzz of homey ski lodges across the world, there’s something edging and addicting about the activity. Maybe it’s the friendly people or just the fast paced nature of the sport, but it’s a booming favorite when it comes to winter.

Besides the ski hill there are many creative ways to get outside with the snow.

Cross Country Skiing

Snowshoeing

Ice Fishing

Snowmobiling

Skiing is great but things like snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, back-country skiing, ice skating, dog sledding, hockey, and ice fishing are all awesome sports that have their own flavors of atmosphere, skill, work, and fun.

2. Snow Fun:

Snow comes with copious numbers of exhilarating activities. Building snow forts and having snow ball battles of epic proportions are one way to spend the day.

Snowmen are great company and a blast to build. Watch out, your dog might pee on him… it happens.

Sledding is a bit more of a dangerous game, but it’s a swell ride for the occasional snow day, and we can’t forget about snow angels.

Snow is even edible! Just watch out for that yellow snow!

3. The Giving Season:

Christmas is a lot of things, but one of the best things about it is the all-around giving atmosphere. This is the time to express the feelings you have, the appreciation for the people you love, and more.

Don’t be afraid to give your change when you see red buckets and volunteers ringing bells. The Christmas season is booming for the food bank, homeless shelters, and countless other nonprofit organizations. So when the holiday season comes around, get out there and give, it will have a great impact on someone as well as your own heart.

4. Hot Chocolate and Fireplaces:

There’s nothing better than snuggling up with a cup of hot chocolate in front of a warm fire.

Another great thing about the winter season is that you can snuggle up with a significant other, sister, brother, mom, dad, dog, or book, and whatever it may be, it’s quality time being warm while winter blows it’s course.

5. The New Year:

There’s nothing better than starting off fresh with some new goals and old traditions.

6. Time Off (hopefully):

Take a second to breathe and appreciate whatever time you’ve been given for the holidays. It’s time to de-stress, see the family, and have a good time.

Remember to be polite and appreciative to those who are working during the season. Police stations, hospitals, restaurants, retail, the fire department, mail system, garbage service, and snowplows are some of many organizations with numerous employees who are working during the holiday season in order to keep society functioning.

7. Winter Scenery:

If you take the time to look, winter can be absolutely awe-inspiring.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…
