Seven SNL Inspired Halloween Costume Ideas

As we know Halloween is upon us, and with that comes the frantic search for a Halloween costume. As college students we strive to pick a costume that is 1.) funny or unique and 2.) CHEAP. If you, like me, are a Saturday Night Live fan, you will realize this show is a goldmine for easy costume ideas. With new characters being introduced all the time, and old standbys still bringing in laughs ages later, these costumes will be a hit, at least for those that understand them. Even still here is a definitive list of costumes based on SNL that you can easily recreate this Halloween:

1. Garth and Kat

The singing duo Garth and Kat is a perfect couples costume. All you need is a white turtleneck, a short blonde wig, and a unique sweater vest usually featuring some kind of holiday print. All of these things will be at your local salvation army, which is a gold mine for different and strange clothing.

2. Gilly

Gilly, the mischievous middle schooler, is a definite crowd pleaser. Be sure to get into character with a curly wig, bow, heart dress, white polo, and high white socks. Oh, and don't forget her signature smile and catchphrase: "Sorry!" (cue devious activity).

3. Target Lady

Okay, so as you can tell I am a fan of Kristen Wiig characters, but so many of them are iconic. Target lady, the cashier a little too obsessed with Target (who isn't though?) is a super simple costume to complete. Pair a hawaiian shirt, red vest, and bowl cut with the target name tag and you're good to go. (Salval will definitely have a Hawaiian shirt by the way).

4. Mary Katherine Gallagher

This character was so popular on SNL she got her own movie, Superstar. Channel Mary Katherine's catholic school girl look with a plaid skirt, white polo, vest, glasses and red headband. Maybe you an even break out your old uniform from high school to help. Don't forget to pose with your hands in your armpits to really get into being her character.

5. Wayne and Garth

Another character duo who got their own movie, Wayne and Garth's chill vibe is easy to recreate in costume. For Garth rock a blonde mullet band tee, plaid shirt, glasses, and jeans. For Wayne wear a black tee, jeans, and a wayne's world baseball cap.

6. Stefon

Stefon, who would know all the happening clubs to go to on Halloween, is another seemingly simple costume to create. get an army green graphic tee, pair it with a printed long sleeve shirt, add lots of rings, and don't forget to slick down your hair. If people don't recognize you, try covering your mouth with your hands when you talk.

7. Dooneese

And finally Dooneese! Break out the tiny hands and fancy long sleeve dress to play this oddball character. Don't forget that Dooneese is partially bald as well. The most fun you can have with this costume is trying to eat and touch people with your tiny hands to get a reaction.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
