I started watching "Saturday Night Live" with my father when I was just eight years old. He worked irregular hours, so he was wide awake at 11 pm to watch the show. It first started out as our bonding time, but little did I know it would later develop into a complete fascination with the show that I have to this day.
Growing up, I'd come to school on Monday mornings and talk to my friends about the show and nobody had any idea what I was talking about because most of their parents made them go to bed at 8 pm - except for one girl who also watched the show with her dad. My friend and I would always imitate 'Gilly' to the point where it was probably extremely annoying to our other friends, but we didn't care.
But as I've gotten older, I analyze all the beautifully written satirical sketches that are performed on stage and laugh while tears stream down my face.
Whenever I get any free time, I am always watching "Saturday Night Live." I am almost 99% sure that I have watched all the sketches that have been uploaded to YouTube, and I am currently working on watching every single sketch from the SNL app. I once watched Jimmy Fallon's Talk Show Debut with Conan and he explained his fascination with the show and he said, "I used to watch it all the time - like a sicko," and I have never related to anything more in my life.
I've not only watched the sketches, but I've watched all the "Creating Saturday Night Live" and backstage videos as well. I don't just love the joy and laughter the show brings me, but I admire all of the hard work and dedication put into the show. I do not understand how hair and makeup, wardrobe, music, special effects, and set-design crews are able to pull off an amazing show in a week (or less) for the world to watch on Saturday night; and for it to end successfully with smiles on the world's faces at 12:59:34 am.
"Saturday Night Live" has always stayed true to its goal from season one to season 43 - and that is to bring light and humor into silly, weird, awkward, and even dark situations that we all experience sometime in this life.
I want to be a part of the Studio 8H audience because I want to be in the atmosphere where all of the great legends were born. I want to feel the thrill of the chaos. I want to take a deep breath and take in every moment of me sitting in Studio 8H the place I've become so familiar with through a screen. And most of all, I want to laugh hysterically and live my dream of hearing the famous words, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!"
