Snapchat's Spectacles: The Perfect Christmas Present

Don't you wanna see from an ant's eye view?

Snapchat's Spectacles: The Perfect Christmas Present
The Verge

Snapchat has recently released their newest technology, a pair of sunglasses that they call Spectacles. The Spectacles are equipped with a camera in the corner of the glasses that records 10, 20, or 30 second videos right from your perspective and sends the video straight to your Snapchat story. How convenient, right?

The first thing to know about these “high tech glasses” is that they are not just glasses, they’re a recording device that takes vlogging, video recording, and social media in general to the next level. Imagine all the cool stuff you could do while wearing them, and all the while sending the videos right back to your story for all your friends to see? In the short amount of time that they’ve been released, I’ve seen what it looks like for Julien Solomita to come home to his dogs, how it looks when Jesse Wellens is Booster Boarding through the streets, and witnessed Natalie Duran climb to the top of a rope, via Jesse’s Specs. The things that you could do are endless.

Specifically for me, I would think it would be interesting to just wear them walking around campus, because honestly you never know the things you could see along the way to class. And I’ve seen some strange things. Also, the people I’ve seen the views from are super tall. I am on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, and I think it would be cool to show everyone what it’s like to be small and incapable of reaching everything.

Regardless of my reason, I think that having the Spectacles would be a super cool experience. To my knowledge, the Spectacles are the first piece of wearable technology that is fully functioning and mass produced. Some may say, “Oh, the Apple Watch!”, but nay, the Apple Watch cannot send videos directly to your Snapchat story. And though Apple Watches and Samsung Gears and whatever else off brand wearable watch might be the first instance of wearable technology to you, consider this: you can buy those products in a regular store. You can go to Best Buy, or even Wal-Mart I’m sure, and pick one up in no time. The Snapchat Spectacles are vended to you in a super cool, happy, smiling vending machine. Yes, a vending machine. A big yellow vending machine with a huge eye on it, somewhat resembling a minion, yet more sophisticated, delivers these super cool pieces of technology to you.

What’s better than the way they’re delivered? The fact that they’re only $129! Some might say that that is too expensive, but we pay $800 and above for our cell phones. The Spectacles could be super expensive, but they’re less than $200, which is pretty cheap in the world of technology. And for the seamless video quality, they’re well worth it.

If you haven’t yet, I highly suggest you check them out. And if you’re interested in buying a pair, keep in mind that the vending machine travels. And there’s only one so far. There aren’t multiple popping up like redbox machines. It’s one singular machine that travels from city to city. So when they visit your city, or a city near you, you best be ready. And clear your schedule, because you’ll probably be in line for hours, but I guarantee you the wait will be worthwhile.

For anyone wondering what I’d like to have for Christmas, here’s your clue.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
