Snapchat is one of the most popular social media outlets and not just for your average teen glued to their phone.
Celebrities and musicians are becoming more and more active on Snapchat. Whether it’s the pressure from public relations agents or simply self-satisfaction, celebrities are now sharing exclusive footage and behind the scene angles.
If you follow your favorite musician, you will probably see a few selfies and their pre-show ritual. Then, an unknown source takes over and records their whole set from backstage.
Now this might seem awesome – a kid from the Midwest gets to see his favorite musician perform 10 seconds of every song on his new tour set. Might I add, the show is “lit" as it is a sold out L.A. venue. It looks awesome and the kid even feels influenced to listen to a track or two off his nearly-dead iPhone before bed.
However, two months later and the artist is finally visiting Indy. When the kid arrives, he is overwhelmed with excitement but the scene feels like something familiar. The set looks familiar, you’ve seen all of the backgrounds – you even know his go-to track that he saves for his encore.
Sadly, the disconnect and numbing doesn’t stop there. The kid already has 100 seconds on his Snapchat because he wants to assure he is cool to all of his friends that couldn’t be at the show.
Be conscious, put the phone down, and live in the moment. The memories will last longer if they are not through a screen and the phone will take away emotion from the experience.
Also, if you have an android – you can delete Snapchat right now. To be honest, no one really wants to see your 10-second snippet – nine seconds a blurry mess – the viewer is stuck deciphering. Unless Michael Jackson and Jimi Hendrix are in concert together, put your f***ing phone away!
