The following is a trust story that happened to me just the other day.
Average Day
So I'm a pretty average person. I'm a blonde haired, blue eyed girl from Missouri that likes to dance and hangout with her friends. Pretty basic. However, the other day something very interesting happened to me.
The Notification
I received a notification on Snapchat from a girl I only knew through mutual friends. We have never hung out or met in person at all so I was like, "huh?". Upon opening said notification there was a message reading "hey girl you up?". Pretty odd but I sure was awake so I responded with a simple "Yeah what's up?".
The Request
After this she proceeded to ask for $75 to pay for a speeding ticket. Apparently she didn't get paid until that Friday and didn't have the money that the ticket was costing her resulting in a potential warrant out for her arrest. Reading this I was absolutely shocked.
An Excuse?
She then told me that she wasn't asking her friends because they weren't trustworthy. What made me (a person she's never talked to face to face) more trustworthy than her friends. It was fishy from the start. But being the kindhearted person that I am I seriously considered lending her the money.
The Response
I had a weird vibe about this from the start so I quickly replied with the honest answer of "I'm a college student now and I'm broke sorry girl!" in which she replies with "Oh okay no biggie thanks anyways!". After awhile of pondering the questions: Is she making this up? Why would her friends not be trustworthy? If she is in that much trouble shouldn't she contact family?
A Realization
I finally talked with my mom about the situation. She then informed me that about a week before this my sister was asked the same thing through Snapchat. In both cases the people asking for money seemed desperate enough to ask almost complete strangers yet so quick to forgive when the request was not met. Both cases were so similar it was almost scary. However, these people were talking normal and genuinely seemed concerned. That's why I was so confused. The girl who had messaged me then continued on to post her new nails, Champion, Louis Vuitton, and Supreme clothing.
You Can't Trust Anybody
Either this girl needs some serious budgeting and priority checks or she just wanted some extra cash. I urge you to be cautious of ANYONE asking for money on the internet. Even if it is someone you just think needs some help it is imperative that you do your research before forking over any amount of money. Who knows if I would've seen that money again or if it was really going to the ticket. You can't trust anybody online in this day and age.
