One of the most common criticisms of EDM is that the music all sounds the same. While the argument does have some merit, with the homogenization of EDM into popular billboard music, the multi-faceted genre is still continuously expanding, evolving, and broadening to include unique sounds and styles. After SNAILS' performance at Canopy Club on Oct. 23, and Cash Cash partnering up with TRITONAL for a performance of their Untouchable Tour at Canopy Oct. 28, now is your chance to hear two very different and unique sounds from varying spectrums within the umbrella genre that is EDM.
The dirty bass-loving 'SNAILS' is burgeoning a style of dubstep all his own. Devising his unique approach to dub step and trap by heavily manipulating (sounds in trap production) and blending hip hop/reggae rhythms, he's created his mind-boggling, intoxicatingly grimy style which he characterizes as "vomitstep."
The Canadian DJ/Producer began releasing tracks three years ago and has gotten into his groove producing his weird and funky aggressive drop-filled tracks. Already a favorite among bass lovers, SNAILS blends insane bass lines, stimulating vocals, intense drums, and often funky yet hefty synth to create tracks that crowds can get down and dance to. For those unfamiliar with SNAILS, think Excision, Datsik, Flosstradamus or Skrillex, but with a distinct jumble of trappy sounds and infectious drops uniquely manufactured by SNAILS himself.
SNAILS just released a sick original bass-filled track called "Frogbass" which is somewhat reminiscent of Bassnectar's "Frog Song." With funky synth, heavy drums, a pounding bass, hair raising vocals, and frequent eruptions of frog croaks, his new hit is guaranteed to excite and pump you up.
Make sure to keep an eye on SNAILS, as having already collaborated with big artists like Jack U, Big Gigantic, and HeRobust, he is likely to burst the scene this year with his intense and grimy bangers.
For those dying to hear equally electrifying bass-filled tracks but with a more power pop, techno dance feel, then Canopy's Oct. 28 headliner is the performance for you. Cash Cash and TRITONAL have joined forces for their North American Untouchable Tour and will be bringing upbeat, heart pounding, synth-filled dance beats sure to make you fist pump the night away.
The New York-based Cash Cash consists of brothers Jean Paul Makhlouf and Alex Makhlouf and Samuel Frisch. The group lends their increasing popularity to their transition into dance music with their breakout progressive house, vocally charged hit, "Take Me Home," which fared extremely well on charts across the world.
Having signed with Atlantic's Big Beat Records in 2013, and joining fellow DJ/Producers Skrillex, Knife Party, Chromeo and pop artists such as Icona Pop, Cash Cash's future is looking brighter than ever. With huge progressive and electro-house hits like "Surrender" and "Lightning" and electro disco influenced tracks like "Overtime" already under their belt, Cash Cash promises to bring an exhilarating set.
If you still aren't impressed, check out their electropop remixes of songs from artists like Bruno Mars, Capital cities, and Icona Pop, and just try not to sway your body to these bass rhythm filled techno/disco filled beats.
Sharing the stage with Cash Cash is the DJ/Producer duo known as TRITONAL. No stranger to Canopy Club, TRITONAL never disappoints, bringing an always memorable and invigorating set filled with catchy vocals, bouncy synth drops, and energetic beats.
Largely popular progressive house hits "Anchor" "Now or Never," and "Satellite" have helped gain TRITONAL a widespread and dedicated following among the EDM scene. Consisting of members Chad Cisneros and Dave Reed, TRITONAL is well known to EDM lovers across the globe because of their intense dedication to their music and their fans. Collaborating with Cash Cash on the vocally-charged banger "Untouchable" the artists are bound to bring their A game to Canopy.
And for all you Chainsmokers lovers out there, TRITONAL recently released a electro dance collaboration with the DJ/Producer/Songwriter duo, titled "Until You Were Gone," combining the songwriting talents of both groups as well as their love for synth drops.
