SMU Basketball Season has officially started. As Mob fans are warming up their best yelling voices, the SMU basketball team is amping themselves up for another much awaited season.
After the NCAA ban last year, SMU was restricted from participating in March Madness. This was extremely disappointing to SMU's dedicated basketball fans and the SMU community. After a successful 2015-2016 season, despite the ban, the Mustangs are geared up for the 2016-2017 season.
According to an article written by SMU's own Reece Graham, the Mustangs will start out the season strongly with a win against Gardner-Webb. This winning streak is predicted to continue with games against Eastern Michigan, Pittsburgh, Michigan, and UC Santa Barbara.
However, the season will start to get tough with games against Southern California and SMU's notorious rival TCU. These close match-ups will be ones to watch during the season.
New freshman players Harry Froling, Leo Kontopoulos, Dashawn McDowell and Tom Wilson are ones to look out for on the court. SMU Basketball fans will be tracking their progress throughout the season to see how they perform and grow as new additions to the team.
There will also be the return of fan favorites such as Ben Moore, Shake Milton, Sterling Brown, and Jarrey Foster. Their appearance on and off the court always leaves SMU students star-struck.
New coach Tim Jankovich has big shoes to fill after Larry Brown's departure last season. But there is no doubting his ability to lead the Mustangs to victory. Jankovich spent the last four seasons under Larry Brown and is a veteran of 33 seasons as a coach.
With the excitement of the beginning of the season, SMU Men's Basketball has also announced via Twitter, their new recruits for next year. William Douglas, Ethan Chargois, Elijah Landrum, and Everett Ray all signed for the 2017-2018 season on Wednesday, November 9.
The 2016-2017 season is starting and the Mustangs have the right mindset and fan support to make this an even more successful season. This is definitely one to watch, SMU fans. Here's to a great season and most importantly, Pony Up!
